Jordan Berry [00:00:04]:
Welcome to Laundromat News Today. I am your news anchor, Jordan Barry, and I’m coming to you with today’s and this week’s Laundromat News on Laundromat News Today. And we’re gonna spin it right back around to the small town of Skagway, Alaska, which is making news headlines again because in Skagway, there was a laundromat fire, that started with some unattended towels. So just, you know, a a good word of thought for all of us laundromat owners out there. Make sure we’re keeping an eye on, on our stuff and make sure those dryers don’t get stuck on, don’t get too hot, don’t get, washed with oil or grime, anything flammable on them. And also, listen, if you’re looking for a change of pace, Skagway is needing some laundry help out there right now. So consider Skagway, Alaska. It’s beautiful.
Jordan Berry [00:00:57]:
At least it is in the summer. That’s the only time I’ve been there. But they’re looking for a year round laundromat because it’s closing down. Some of you may have been following. There’s been a saga going on this whole week, which, you know, a a man listen. He he threw his life down the drain here and, he actually stabbed a, a laundromat employee over $15.34 of laundry that did not get finished in time in his mind. And, he was at large. A good portion of this week, could not be found and ended up being fatally shot by New York police department, officer, in a in a in a chase there.
Jordan Berry [00:01:44]:
So, it’s just a it was a manhunt that turned, into a fatal confrontation. So, anyways, I don’t want to bring too much down, but it was a saga going on this week with this guy who just kind of lost it. He just kind of snapped and attacked this worker who is in stable condition. You’ll be happy to know. And then was at large for a while with the manhunt going on and ended up in a fatal, shooting there. But let’s get a little more positive here. I want to give a shout out to Cammie who, was featured in a Newsweek article. She was a nurse who ended up buying a laundromat and I get asked all the time, hey, is it still viable to buy a laundromat today? Is it still a good business to be in? Well guess what? Cammie bought a laundromat and she tripled her income from her nursing job and is much happier and is working on her own time.
Jordan Berry [00:02:41]:
That is what it is all about. That’s the power of what laundromats can bring to you. So shout out to Cammie, who also has a TikTok channel. You can go check out her stuff going on there. Big news out of Wascamat. They just introduced a new 200 gs hard mount machine, that’s got touchscreen controls. Those touch screens are running rampant in our industry right now. Love it.
Jordan Berry [00:03:03]:
Think it’s great. And, check out the Wascamat, machines that they have just come out with, that they claim is their toughest machine yet, and including touch control technology. So we are finally catching up with the iPhone of, I don’t know, 15 years ago or something and bring a touchscreen to the laundry industry. Multiple, manufacturers are now producing that and that is only a win for us, Laundromat owners and our customers. Speaking of manufacturers, Alliance is at it again, purchased another distributor, Alliance Laundry, distributor in Salt Lake City, Utah. So Alliance is still, gobbling up their distributors, left and right. What is going on there? Well, I am not privy to that knowledge, but I think it’s something that we need to keep an eye on as, as some of the manufacturers are starting to own the entire process from the manufacturing to the distribution to the financing and now franchising also. And as we’re speaking of franchising, Tide franchise is added again.
Jordan Berry [00:04:18]:
Texas, they have got another Tide franchise location coming to your market and Miami and South Florida. You’ve got 14 Tide cleaners and 5 Tide Laundromats slotted to be coming to your South Florida market coming in. So Tide is making a huge push right now, in some of these markets in Florida and Texas at the very least. Definitely something to be keeping an eye on. I know there’s other franchises happening right now, but Tide’s got some name recognition there. So we need to pay attention to what they’re doing and what markets they’re heading into and how that’s going to affect us as independent owners and operators. And lastly to round out the news, I wanna just congratulate, I think it’s Gauch Distributing, distributor celebrating 30 years in business. That’s a big deal.
Jordan Berry [00:05:17]:
30 years in business serving Laundromat owners. And I hope, although I don’t know them personally, they’re out there in New York. I hope that they are serving their customers well and I anticipate that they are because they’ve been around for 30 years and that’s not easy to do. So that is your roundup of Laundromat news today. I hope that you’ve got something out of this, and we will be back next week with your Laundromat news today, next week. See you later.
