Jordan Berry [00:00:01]:
Welcome to Laundromat News. Today, I am your favorite Laundromat News anchor, Jordan Berry, and I’m bringing you all the Laundromat news from around the world. And let’s kick it off in Kenilworth, New Jersey with Bubbles and Baskets Laundromat, who they’re, released a press release saying that they are running a promotion where for every dollar you spend in the laundromat, you get a point hundred points, and you get a $5 voucher. And I highlight this story, partially because it’s a press release, but also because, listen, we we should be thinking about how do we reward our customers and encourage our customers to continue to utilize our services. Now, yes, we need to be giving great services, and making sure they have a great experience when they encounter us. But, you know, there are other things that we can be doing too. So I just wanna highlight this one way to do it. Is it the best? No.

Jordan Berry [00:00:58]:
I don’t know. Is it the only one? Definitely not. So be thinking about how do you foster loyalty in your laundromat? And again, I am always an advocate that we be intentional about the things that we’re doing, like this laundromat. It’s called Hangout Laundry, and it’s in Singapore. And they’ve got a lot of cool stuff going on. They’ve got a it’s a laundromat plus a cafe plus a coworking space, which I haven’t really seen any of that yet, but I think that’s a really great concept. And not only that, but they do a whole lot of fun events like this past Valentine’s day. They had a dating mixer and at their lawnmower, they had a beer, they had beer, a live DJ, and they played a bunch of quirky games, like blindfold laundry, folding and stuff like that.

Jordan Berry [00:01:45]:
Just a way to get the community together. This one particular was serving the singles in the community and getting them together, you know, making love happen. You know what I mean? One folded, fitted bed sheet at a time. I don’t know. But yeah. Anyways, all that again to say, be creative, have fun with your laundromat, engage people in unique ways. And look at that. You make the news international news.

Jordan Berry [00:02:11]:
I’m making them international news right now. I also just wanted to highlight, speaking of, thinking creatively and pairing laundromats with other unique businesses that might, that might blend well together. Consider a birthing center along with your laundromat. There’s a story out right now of a woman in New York who gave birth in a laundromat. So congrats to her and her brand new baby and that that laundromat owner who is, I mean, if you think about it, it’s kind of a kind of a parent to this kid by providing the birthing center in their laundromat. And condolences also to the attendant who had to clean up after that. I don’t know. Maybe that was too much.

Jordan Berry [00:02:58]:
That was too much. Let’s move on quickly to another lawn laundromat owner who is getting a lot of suggestions from the community on, on on other things to sort of pair with their laundromat. A lot of different ideas were thrown out. Cafes A smoothie, place was thrown out. And, this laundromat owner made the news because they refused to do any of those things. They wanted to stick with just laundry. And a lot of community members came out, in this story and were quoted as saying that they were frustrated with this laundromat owner because they were very this laundromat owner was very closed minded. Closed minded.

Jordan Berry [00:03:47]:
Close minded. Get it? Okay. Okay. That was your joke story for the day. Let’s quickly move on from that one as well, out to Cleveland where there you mean, you’ve heard of the Leaning Tower Of Pisa, but in Little Italy, out there in Cleveland, there is a leaning laundromat of Cleveland, I guess, where actually the building is leaning and falling down. The basement has already collapsed and looks like it’s gonna be, demolished, in the near future here. They actually approved it to be demolished back in 2020, but it looks like it might be happening here pretty soon. So condolences to the owner of that laundromat.

Jordan Berry [00:04:31]:
Hopefully, they can get that building situated and make it profitable again, whether it’s a laundromat or not. But, just thought that was a unique and interesting story, and let’s wrap it up with another Tide Laundromat story. You may have remembered a couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that there were there was a deal signed for 51 unit, units of franchise, Tide Laundromat signed, in the Chicago area. Well, there’s another deal inked here with a 50 unit deal with CMG companies in the Southwest. They’re based out of Dallas, and they’re looking in the Southwest. So listen, if you have ever thought there was a time for you to up your game with your laundromat, Tide Laundromats is is building laundromats in bunches. Right. And they’re not gonna do a bad job when they build these things out.

Jordan Berry [00:05:27]:
So you have got to up your game and what that looks like. And you’ve been hearing that maybe a little bit on the podcast. If you listen to the interviews and you will continue to for a little bit longer, at least. Branding is more important than ever. Make sure you have a solid, strong brand and not just I’m not just talking logos and colors here. I’m talking about your full branding picture that you have here. How do you want people to see and experience your business more important than ever customer service? More important than it’s ever, ever been, and only going to get more important as we go. So tighten up your customer service, standard operating procedures and systems you have in place.

Jordan Berry [00:06:13]:
Data is going to become more and more important in making database decisions for your business. All this is going to be more and more important. Okay. So this is huge. This is important. If that’s something that you’re like, man, that feels all super overwhelming for you and you you want to explore talking to somebody about how they can help you, we’ve got a team that does exactly that. Check out laundromatresource.com/playbook, because listen, we’re independent owners and operators, many of us. And these these Tide Laundromat franchises, I think, have a real shot of making a big dent in this industry.

Jordan Berry [00:06:53]:
And while that might be a little bit scary, I think it’s an ultimately a good thing for our industry because they are going to up the bar, at least on the front end. I don’t know how operations are gonna be, but at least on the front end, they’re gonna up the bar of what people expect from a laundromat. And so we have got to not only just respond, but we have got to up our game above and beyond as independent owner and operator. So that’s the news from around the world today. Hopefully, it ended ended on a too, scary note. Feel inspired. Okay. This is a good thing.

Jordan Berry [00:07:28]:
Be inspired. We can get creative. We can think bigger. We can tighten up our operations. It reminds me of I saw a a YouTube video with Jocko Willink, and he’s talking about how one of his, one of his he’s he’s in the military. Right? And somebody who reported to him would come to him and and, you know, express frustrations or problems that happen. Like our mission got canceled last minute or whatever it is. And he came to him one time with a problem.

Jordan Berry [00:07:56]:
He said, I already know what you’re going to say. And he said, well, what am I going to say? He said, you’re going to say good. And he says, that’s right. Right. When stuff happens and it seems scary or it seems bad, or it seems rough, say to yourself, good, that’s an opportunity to get better. Good, that’s an opportunity to learn something. Good, that’s an opportunity for growth. Right? So let’s let’s look at this not as scary, not as bad, not as Tides coming to take our business, but, hey, let’s learn something from Tide and how they’re doing the things they’re doing.

Jordan Berry [00:08:27]:
Let’s up our game, up our customer service, tighten down our branding, you know, all this stuff. Let’s let’s see this as good and let’s respond accordingly. Let’s get excited. Let’s get pumped and let’s get ready to to get out there and rise a level for everybody. That’s what we’re all about, right? Okay. That’s it for the news today. We’ll see you next week. If you have got a story you’d like featured on the news, send us an email.
