Hello everyone! I use Shifton for automatic shift planning in our company, but sometimes it is not quite possible to achieve the ideal result. For example, the system distributes shifts normally, but there is a problem with overtime – someone ends up with extra shifts, and someone does not get the required amount of work. I tried changing the parameters of the algorithm, but so far I have not achieved the optimal result. Perhaps some of you have already encountered a similar problem and know how to better configure the system? Or maybe there are some tips on manual intervention in such moments?
January 9, 2025 at 6:38 am #33714Yes, with https://shifton.com/shift-scheduling there are moments when automatic scheduling does not distribute shifts quite accurately, and I have encountered this too. In general, the system tries to optimize the workload, but it does not always take into account all the individual characteristics of employees. For example, if one of the employees cannot work on certain days or, conversely, wants to work more than usual, then this must be taken into account manually. When I started using shifton, I also noticed that sometimes one of the employees has too many shifts, and someone cannot get the required workload. This is due to the fact that the system is mainly focused on general parameters – such as the minimum number of shifts and working days – but does not always correctly assess which of the employees is ready to take on additional work, and who, on the contrary, needs rest. The first thing I did was carefully study the system settings. It is very important to set the correct restrictions: the number of shifts per week, working hours, as well as the ability to transfer shifts. This helps the system generate a more accurate schedule, but it still needs to be adjusted manually. For example, at the beginning of the week I always review the automatic distribution and make changes. For example, if I see that one employee is accidentally rescheduled for too many shifts, I redistribute them a little, focusing on their physical condition, and also taking into account their personal preferences.

I also started with automatic scheduling, but I realized that it is important to focus not only on the number of shifts, but also on more detailed settings, such as employee qualifications and their personal preferences.
