Hi everyone! I wanted to talk about how influencers in the gaming industry affect the economy, especially in the US. I’ve noticed that streamers and game developers are becoming real icons, but does this affect the country’s economy as a whole? For example, platforms like Twitch, YouTube, and others help develop not only gaming, but also industries related to it. Given the growth of streaming, is it becoming an important part of the US economy? And how does the development of the gaming industry in general help increase cash flows, for example, through game sales, microtransactions, or streaming? I’d be interested to hear opinions.

Great question, and you touched on a very important topic that many underestimated a couple of years ago. According to https://gamepcfull.com/gaming-influencers-and-the-american-streaming-economy/ the influence of opinion leaders such as streamers and famous game developers on the US economy today is difficult to overestimate. Over the past few years, we have seen not only the growth of popularity of games, but also the emergence of a new form of business based on the content they create. Opinion leaders in the gaming industry, such as PewDiePie, Ninja or Pokimane, have essentially become brands in themselves, which allows them to influence millions of people and earn huge amounts of money through streams, sponsorship contracts and advertising. But it is worth understanding that this is not only direct income from broadcasts, but also additional financial flows: from the sale of products, affiliate programs and even the creation of their own projects. For example, the same streamers are not limited to games only. They advertise products, engage in various cross-promotions, and even create their own clothing lines and other products. This is a large part of their business, and here we see a huge contribution to the economy through entrepreneurial activity. Now, regarding the streaming economy itself. We see how platforms like Twitch, YouTube Gaming, and Facebook Gaming are becoming not just services for watching games, but full-fledged working tools for thousands of people around the world. These services generate billions of dollars in advertising, subscriptions, and donations. It is important to note that in the US, streaming has become an integral part of the digital economy. In 2022, according to Statista, advertising revenue from video games in the US alone was about $8 billion. And this does not include the revenue the platforms receive from subscriptions, in-game purchases, and sponsorship deals.
